I was quoted in the the Lexington Herald Leader's front page story today on the University of Kentucky's creative new plan to become a top 20 research school: by instituting a domestic partner benefit plan. If anyone wonders why, despite all the talk of top 20 status, UK was ranked 112th, next to the University of Missouri-Rolla, in last year's U. S. News and World Report rankings, moves like this will begin to make sense of it.
While class sizes get bigger and staff salaries languish at 89% of their benchmark schools, UK is spending its time and resources giving benefits to the live-in sexual partners of its staff.
Go figure.
The Louisville Courier-Journal also ran a story which can be found here.
