It appears that Speaker of the U. S. House Nancy Pelosi has the votes to pass the bailout; she just doesn't want to do it without Republican support. Why? Why does the leader of the majority party in the House have to have Republican support, along with Senate support and the support of the President to pass a bill? Since when did that become essential?
There is only one possible reason: Pelosi fears the bailout will be unpopular, and the bailout will only prove unpopular if it doesn't work, meaning that Pelosi fears the bailout won't work.
Why should her fear inspire confidence in anyone who wants to vote for this bill?
