Jake Payne at Page One, Kentucky criticized U. S. Senate candidate Matt Bevin today for not knowing "the difference between the Bill of Rights and the Constitution."
Huh?
The Bill of Rights is a part of the Constitution. It consists of the first ten amendments to it. The amendments to a document are part of the document. Otherwise, what are they amending?
Jake says Bevin "was clearly educated in one of Kentucky’s unfortunate school districts." It would be interesting to know which school Jake went to that taught him that the Bill of Rights was not part of the Constitution.

The image portrayed in the ad is that Bevin gets “bailouts” while skipping out on his taxes. The reality is that, after financial success, he became involved in a small family business with historic roots in the community and had started to get the company back on its feet when tragedy struck. Rather than throw in the towel, he decided to try to rebuild the business, with some state aid.
Ordinarily, one would think McConnell would celebrate such gumption by a small business owner.
Grimes must be grinning from ear to ear.
Well, in fairness, there is a difference between a whole and a part of that whole. But I went to the article to try to see if what Bevin said makes sense, whether it refers to the Constitution or the Bill of Rights, and I didn't see anything he said that referred to either. What am I missing?

ReplyDeleteActually, there are 11 Amendments in the Bill of Rights (most people forget #27), plus one Article that was never adopted and has since been rendered moot.
