One of the most famous Christian churches in the world converted into a mosque?

The government of Turkey is apparently thinking about again turning the Hagia Sophia, one of the most significant Christian sacred structures in the world (it was the seat of the Patriarchate of Constantinople), into a mosque.

I am tempted to wonder what would happen if a Christian government were to even think of converting a historically significant mosque into a Christian church.

I think I will resist the temptation.

    A little misleading. The Hagia Sophia has been a Christian church in the past, yes...until the 1400s when it was already falling apart and nearly out of use. After which, it was converted into a Mosque for over 500 years. In the 1930s it was then converted into a Museum. Surely there is a statute of limitations.

    This story might have been much more relevant during the beginning of the Ottoman Empire.

    Mike,

    That's why I said "again." But the point of the piece (which was apparently lost on Singring) was not a protest against it happening, but an invitation to think about how differently it would have been dealt with if the situation was reversed.
