When all of the partying over the liberal's political victory in the Obergefell v. Hodges decision abates, they're going to realize an ugly truth: the majority decision by Justice Anthony Kennedy is an intellectual embarrassment.
Granted, this realization will take a while, since contemporary liberals care as little but the Constitution actually says as the five justices who just rewrote it. But, although they really don't care about the Constitution, they at least try to keep up the pretension of being rational.
If conservatives play it right, they can hang this albatross around the liberal neck.
Here is Brian Beutler, writing in the liberal New Republic in an article titled, "Anthony Kennedy’s Same-Sex Marriage Opinion Was a Logical Disaster":
Outside of academic specialties, historic Supreme Court decisions aren’t generally taught as logical treatises, but as watershed moments, which is great news for Kennedy because his opinion in Obergefell is, logically speaking, kind of a disaster.Read more here.

Martin,
There is no play here. The vast majority of voters don't read either Supreme Court opinions or The New Republic, and trying to explain this to them will make their eyes glaze over almost instantaneously. You've lost; deal with it.
KyCobb,
Here you go with the might makes right routine again. I have always said that this is what relativistic secularism reduces to. Thanks for proving my point.
By the way, if the Supreme Court had struck down First Amendment free speech rights, would you be advising, "You've lost. Deal with it"?
What do you have against divorce lawyers, Martin?
Change the subject much?
Martin,
Ridiculous hypotheticals don't a good argument make.
KyCobb:
> You've lost; deal with it.
When liberals lose, they deal with it by doubling down until they win. But I think what you're saying is, quit fighting. The fight is never over until the liberals win, and then it's over. And like, "shut up, you lost."
Martin:
Like most conservatives, you're very concerned about winning the arguments. As you can see from Mr. KyCobb's response, liberals only care about winning the power. That's why they keep beating us.
Lee, if you can think of a winning strategy for your side go for it. The Right has spent more than a decade throwing everything it had against same sex marriage, and it went from having a solid majority opposing same sex marriage to a solid majority supporting it. Your tactics have pretty clearly not been working, and I don't think you can turn it around. Once more and more homosexuals started coming out and living their lives openly, it became a whole lot harder to argue they are monsters. When you know and care about homosexuals who are your friends, relatives and co-workers, its a lot harder to hate them.
In order to have a discussion, both sides must start from some common points of agreement.
As seen in comments to https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=11542449&postID=1902452041988504461 and elsewhere, some people do not believe in these polls and argue that that majority of Americans are against same sex marriage. [I guess it does make tactics a lot more difficult when you won't accept reality. Personally, I blame the influence of symbolic logic.]
